NEW YORK – and the BAN TREATY MEETING How to follow the story . . Members of the Words and Actions team will be in New York for the 3rd Meeting of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) - 3rd to 7th March. This treaty is founded on an acceptance of the horrific consequences of nuclear weapon use, and aims for their complete elimination. The 80-year history of nuclear weapons, beginning with the hideous bombings in Japan in 1945, is a catalogue of perilous crises and regular technical and human failures which could easily have led to complete catastrophe. At present the risk of global nuclear war is greater than ever. Although a relatively new treaty, the TPNW has already been signed by 94 UN states and it represents a genuine hope for humanity. Our reps in New York will be updating us on the meeting’s progress and you can catch these updates on nuclearban.scot or by signing up for short newsletters on securescotland.scot. |

On Sunday 23rd March people from a variety of peace organisations gathered for a symbolic closing of Edinburgh castle because of its status as a military base, to chime in with folk across the world marking the Global Day Against Military Spending. As it happens, the castle had been closed to the public because of windy weather! |

Thank you to those who responded so far to the Fundraising Appeal, the sale of art and the donations mean we have extended the period we can definitely pay for till the end of April and we are particularly pleased that some folks are helping with regular monthly payments, which give stability. If we had 200 individuals or groups with a standing order for £10 a month we’d be able to plan and budget for months at a time so if you can, please do it, and also please let us know that you are doing that – and tell your friends. |
